I am glad that Russia seems to have a stable government, for it's own sake.
I will not pass judgement if this is democracy or not: Russians can judge that for themselves, and don't need foreigners to tell them how their country should be run.
For me, Russia is looking democratic, and a hell of a lot better than under Yeltsin which I though was not representing Russia very well (only my opinion).
Of course, I consider Russia now 100 times better than under communism, but that doesn't mean that everything was bad then (again, only my opinion).
By tradition, Russia will play a counter-weight role against the West, and that is not a bad thing. I like the fact that Russia is the only country that question US hegemony: China don't do it, and Europe agree with the USA.
What surprises me, is that Russia doesn't have a strong parliementary opposition to the United Russia Party, which dominates politics.
