Obama offers deal to Russia against Iran

Postby Prita » 05 Mar 2009, 15:09

Obama offered the deal in a letter hand-delivered to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev in Moscow last month by top administration officials, the newspaper reported, citing U.S. officials it did not identify. Whats is your views and suggestions on the issue?

Obama offers deal to Russia against Iran

I would be surprised if Obama was making such offer which, if refused, would live him open to criticism in the US.
As for Russia, it should conduct its foreign policy in accordance with its interests, and not bargain its position.
The missile shield in Europe and the case of Iran are 2 different issues.
The USA 'invented' the need for Europe to be protected by such missiles from countries like Iran.
Russia doesn't feel threatened by Iran, but the installation of US missiles so near incroach on its safety.
Why should Russia sacrifices its good relations with Iran to satisfy the USA?

The fact is that there is growing public opposition to these missiles in Poland and the Czech republic, and their cost will greatly influence their installation anyway.
The USA are trying to sell Russia chicken before they hatched!!

Obama offers deal to Russia against Iran

My girlfriend was surprised when I was so negative about Iran. Well, let me rephrase that - we in Holland are very cautious towards Iran, especially with that Ahmadinejad guy running the country - whom we are VERY critical about. It's clear to me now that Russia has a good relationship and why my girl was positive about Iran ;-)

But lest also not forget that USA under Bush is a different case than USA under Obama. As for Russia refusing? I'm sure USA will inform the masses in such a way they will come out positive, after all Russia is still feared by America and a lot of Americans see Russia as a threat (less so than Russia) -- so a lot of Rednecks will go, oh.. those damn Russians (I am generalizing a bit obviously) - "internally" I don't think Obama has anything to lose.

Its just play of pure politics. As far as US is concerned they will try every nook and crook and try to get what they needed Iran is not at all a threat, what was that happened in Iraq they provided various proofs that Iraq was developing nuclear war head and will burn the world and US came and attacked it and now they are saying that Oh... There was nothing we are mistaken that would be the same case with Iran too. US now wants a missile shield there at the European region and they would play all tactics t get that done. They actually do fear the power of Russia.

Why? Is Iran any threat to the Netherlands?

What has Ahmadinejad done to you?

You shouldn't succumb to the paranoia preached by the US.
The US are only interested in gaining support for their agressive foreign policy.

I don't listen to the US, but it's Dutch media that has taken a very negative stance towards Ahmadinejad, who is portrayed as a madman due to the things he has said about Israel and also the Holocaust. Threatening with nuclear attacks - It's not about me, but if you ask the average Dutch person about Iran's leader - most replies will be negative!

The real politics of the story would be very much different. America always plays with a hidden agenda since Iraq might have taught them a lesson about how to behave well with a country, I personally think Obama is much careful than Bush.
